"Dear Grandpa Teacher, here’s the question. It dawns on me that the days I was still in Vietnam, or when I studied abroad, or when I participated in activities held for monastic practitioners, or for lay practitioners — be they spiritual or worldly occasions, I wonder why the phenomenon of jealousy is so ubiquitous and pervasive.
"And I believe for this world to be safe and peaceful, this phenomenon of jealousy must come to an end. Because if this phenomenon of jealousy is so ubiquitous and pervasive, I think the world can never be safe and peaceful.
"Now, I want to consult Grandpa Teacher. What practices, in Grandpa Teacher’s experience teaching both monastic audience and lay audience, do we have that help transform this heart and mind of jealousy and selfishness into the heart and mind of sympathetic joy, loving-kindness, and compassion Buddhism always speaks of?"
