Thunderstorm in Woodcote
by Richard BentleyApril 29, 2022
This recording was made during a thunderstorm late one summer’s evening, resting against a wall beneath a Rowen tree to keep the recording equipment dry. The rain masks most sounds of traffic, bar the occasional low rumble of a diesel engine nearby. More intimate drips fall from the leaves above and the rain falling about me brings out the contours of objects and materials. The deep rolls of thunder arrive in waves, taking their different paths across the surrounding Thames Valley and Chiltern Hills. The wonder of watching lightening illuminate a darkened landscape is mirrored by the thunder that briefly makes the vast silent landscape audible.
