The Way Out is In podcast series consists of conversations between journalist and Plum Village lay friend Jo Confino and Plum Village monastic Brother Phap Huu, alongside other guests. These meditations conclude each episode with practice contemplations on the theme.
#73 Being with Painful Feelings: Our hosts discuss ways to cope with painful feelings, both individually and collectively.
This meditation, led by Brother Phap Huu, invites us to be tender and loving to our body in order to identify and cultivate happiness, and not run away from a painful feeling:
"Breathing in, I am aware of a feeling, an emotion, that may be painful, may be unpleasant.
Breathing out, I smile to it: I am here for you. I guide it with my in-breath and out-breath.
Hello, my pain: I am here for you. No, we will not run away.
Just breathe with me, just be with me".
Music: From the song "Be Still" by Plum Village friend Joe Holtaway - find out more about Joe here: joeholtaway.com. Joe is happy to hear from you 🙂.
