Touching the Earth

Read moreRead less

“Touching the Earth” is a sacred practice that gives us the opportunity to contemplate what has been transmitted to us by our blood, spiritual and land ancestors, as well as recognise how we are connected to all forms of life across space and time. We practise to celebrate the positive qualities that have been passed on to us, and transform what needs to be transformed.

To begin, you are invited to join your palms in front of your chest in the shape of a lotus bud. Then, after raising your joined hands to touch your forehead and bringing them down past your heart, gently lower yourself to the ground so that all four limbs and your forehead are resting comfortably on the floor. While touching the earth, turn your palms face up, showing your openness to the Three Jewels: the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha.

If this is not accessible for your body, you are invited to touch the earth in whatever way feels comfortable: by connecting with the earth element in your body and mind, or by placing your feet, hands or any part of your body on the earth.

Please enjoy your practice.
