Meditation is not one size fits all. It is a journey, one that requires outside support. In these times of worldwide uncertainty, when more and more people are turning to meditation practices for a refuge from suffering, it is important to understand that practice was traditionally guided by an experienced teacher in a formal relationship with a student. While the benefits of practice are immense, like any profound undertaking, there needs to be an understanding of what constitutes wise action, and what cautionary awareness might be prudent to know before embarking on such a journey. This is especially true when you may not have that personal guidance, and see the app as your teacher.

In the book Unshakable: Trauma Informed Mindfulness for Collective Awakening, author and Dharma teacher, Jo-ann Rosen provides a trauma-sensitive and neuro informed understanding of meditation, many guided meditations that are sensitive to those experiencing great stress or nervous system dysregulation, and cautionary explanations of how to recognize the signs when certain practices may not be helpful.

This section of the app offers you a sampling of Unshakeable’s guided practices that allow for nervous system regulation, developing resources to use on and off the cushion. These guided meditations can be a refuge especially when you encounter bumps and ruts in the road.

EMBRACE sangha is a group that offers free and donation based online workshops, study groups, and deepening practices to bring trauma sensitive, neuro-informed awareness to all the Plum Village practices.
